Paal Nilssen-Love has composed the music for his sextet Circus, drawing inspiration from Ethiopia and Brazil, in addition to his long-standing fascination for music from Mali and Senegal. He wants the band to improvise as free as possible, but still use the written material. So now anyone can play any part of any song at any time. For this concert, Circus will be augmented with special guests from Dutch band The Ex: frontman Arnold de Boer and guitarists Terrie Hessels and Andy Moor.
Drummer Paal Nilssen-Love is known for his super energetic playing en improvising. He’s also one of the most prolific musicians to come out of Norway in the past thirty years. He made name with the Norwegian bands Atomic and The Thing and has collaborated intensively with legendary musicians from the international avant-jazz scene, such as Ken Vandermark and Peter Brötzmann.
