Jimmy Rosenberg is back at Django Amsterdam! On the opening night, the guitar legend will perform with his own trio plus special guest David Bamps on accordion. During the concert, they will officially launch a brand new CD box set with unreleased material from the private collection. Prior to the concert we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the internationally renowned documentary Jimmy Rosenberg: The Father, the Son & the Talent. The film screening will be preceded by an interview with its director, Jeroen Berkvens.
Jimmy Rosenberg is a phenomenon among guitar players and a master of ‘hot jazz’ in the style of Django Reinhardt. At a very young age he had already achieved global fame. He performed at the Concertgebouw with violin player Stéphane Grappelli, who played with Django himself, and at Carnegie Hall with Les Paul and George Benson. Jimmy is a cousin of the members of the Rosenberg Trio.
Django Amsterdam is dedicated to the birthday of guitar legend Django Reinhardt (1910-1953). His style of acoustic swing jazz became part of Roma and Sinti culture. Django is generally considered one of the greatest guitar players of all time. On Friday and Saturday the concerts on our stage will be complemented with sessions and performances at the café.
