An American master joins forces with a promising talent: singing guitarist Gary Lucas en singing double bassist Peter Willems. They form a duo that digs deep in blues-related song material while crossing bridges to jazz, rock and americana. Together they released the album Double Dare Volume 1&2 on ZenneZ Records. Now they will pay tribute to two of Gary’s friends and musical partners, the late legends Jeff Buckley and Captain Beefheart. Rare videos and fascinating stories will illustrate the performance.
Singer, guitarist and (film) composer Gary Lucas (1952) started his career in Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, and he recorded over fifty albums in various genres. He received several Lifetime Achievement Awards for his songwriting in collaboration with Jeff Buckley—he co-composed Jeff’s anthems ‘Grace’ and ‘Mojo Pin’. Peter Willems (1999) recently graduated with honors from the Maastricht conservatory, with a shared bachelor’s degree for vocals and double bass. He has won important jazz awards and has performed at festivals such as North Sea Jazz and So What’s Next?
