Fleurine & Brazilian Dream

Brazilian jazz from a dream band founded in New York by renowned singer Fleurine. ‘She hits every note with playful ease’ (het Parool).

Fleurine makes a stop in her native country for a performance with her dream band, which she formed in New York. The Brazilian band members have performed there with major artists such as Bebel Gilberto, Milton Nascimento and Kurt Rosenwinkel. Original songs are alternated with Brazilian classics, for an evening full of bossa, baiao, samba and jazz.

Brazilian Dream, the most recent album of Fleurine and her band, was nominated for an Edison Award. The album and the new single Nos Bracos do Forro are dedicated to Estrela da Favela, a small school in Rio de Janeiro, which will receive 95% of the proceeds.

In the past 25 years, Fleurine has collaborated with, among others, Roy Hargrove, Lee Konitz and Brad Mehldau. She recorded five albums featuring, among others, Christian McBride, Chris Potter, Peter Bernstein, Chico Pinheiro and Jeff Ballard. In The Netherlands she has worked with, among others, Metropole Orchestra, Jesse van Ruller, Rita Reys, and Peter Beets. In the past year, JazzTimes honored her with an Overdue Ovation, and she performed at major festivals all over the world, from Montreux to Rio to North Sea Jazz, with her Brazilian band.

‘Brazilian chic has nudged its way for two generations into pop and jazz, but few insinuate as distinctively candid and original an interpretation as does vocalist Fleurine’ (Downbeat).

‘The Brazilian repertory fits her like a glove. Fleurine speaks the language and her flexible, bright voice is perfect for the ever so laid-back sounding, but incredibly difficult melody lines. Fleurine hits every note with playful ease’ (het Parool).

‘Fleurine is blessed with an abundance of depth, feel and technique’ (Trouw).
