Born from late-night jams in Brussels jazz clubs and drawn together by a shared fascination with raga and jazz, reed player Nathan Daems, award-winning drummer Lander Gyselinck and Italian bassist Marco Bardoscia merged their passions for long-form Indian ragas, Carnatic rhythm, and deep jazz tradition. What became Ragini Trio has led to a distinct sound. Inspired by the traditional Indian trio of tabla, flute, and tanpura, Ragini offers its mirrored jazz response: drums, saxophone, and double bass. Far from purism or imitation, Ragini Trio crafts a living dialogue between rhythm, melody, and tone colour.
The three musicians never ceased to develop their craft as individual players, collaborating with the likes of Paolo Fresu, Michel Portal, and Ibrahim Maalouf, and founding groundbreaking acts such as Black Flower, STUFF., and Lander & Adriaan. On their new album 3, obviously their third to date, they once again unite Indian tradition with contemporary jazz, creating a new, third form.
‘Three world class musicians, three star attractions. Sparks are flying’ (Jazzism).
