This season, trumpeter Peter Evans appears on our stage no fewer than three times. On 14 October he performs as a solo trumpeter, and on 29 January he plays with his project Being & Becoming. Tonight he performs with his project Extra ft. Petter Eldh & Jim Black.

Peter Evans has been called a highwire trumpeter, balancing between imaginative compositions and extraordinary playing. In his trio Extra he draws from an incredible array of tricks and techniques on piccolo trumpet and flugelhorn, without sacrificing cohesion and swing. In this setting he is supported by top players who appeared on our stage many times: bassist Petter Eldh from bands such as Koma Saxo and Økse, and drummer Jim Black, a close collaborator of Dave Douglas and Tim Berne, among others.

On this album the three players often reach a unity of sound, whether or not with the help of piano, synthesizer and electronics, which they played alongside their main instruments. The album was recorded at the iconic Namouche Studio in Lisbon and it has a feeling of a session where the musicians collaborate to create something new with great excitement.
