Singer, trumpeter and songwriter Bria Skonberg is one of the most versatile voices in contemporary jazz. She has performed the music of Aretha Franklin alongside Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, played with U2 at the Apollo Theater, and appeared as a special guest with Jon Batiste. Her Juno Award confirms what has long been clear: Skonberg is an exceptional talent who moves across the boundaries of jazz with ease.
Her 2024 album What It Means stands as her artistic breakthrough: a deeply personal statement inspired by the sounds of New Orleans. “Pure sonic ebullience is in full display on Skonberg’s latest album What It Means, which mashes traditional jazz sounds and tunes with more modern jazz and even pop styles,” wrote Lee Mergner for WBGO. She now brings new work to our stage with her quintet, including material from her two 2026 albums: one trumpet-focused, one vocal-forward.
‘If Louis Armstrong and Doris Day could somehow be the same person, they’d be Bria Skonberg’ (The Wall Street Journal).
