Scott Hamilton is one of the few tenor saxophonists of his generation who deliberately chose the path of swing and bebop, at a time when many contemporaries were moving towards free jazz or fusion. His warm sound connects to the tradition of Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins and Zoot Sims, shaped in part by trumpeter Roy Eldridge. He has performed with legends such as Ella Fitzgerald and Benny Goodman, and is described by The Guardian as an embodiment of the timeless essence of jazz.
Tonight Hamilton is joined by his regular bandmembers: pianist Rein de Graaff, bassist Marius Beets and drummer Eric Ineke, with whom he previously recorded the live album Live at the Jazzroom. A special addition is guitar legend Philip Catherine, who has been at the forefront of European jazz since the 1960s and has collaborated with greats such as Chet Baker, Charles Mingus and Dexter Gordon.
Scott Hamilton tenor sax, Rein de Graaff piano, Philip Catherine guitar, Marius Beets double bass, Eric Ineke drums
