Saxophonist and composer Tineke Postma is one of the leading figures on the Dutch jazz scene. Since 2003, she has toured internationally as a bandleader and released six albums. Her creative and inventive playing earned her the title Rising Star on soprano saxophone in the 2019 Downbeat Critics Poll. She has performed with legends such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, as well as acclaimed contemporaries including Esperanza Spalding and Terri Lyne Carrington.
Postma’s music moves between innovative improvisations and carefully crafted compositions, drawing influences from both the jazz tradition and European classical music. Her recent albums Freya and Aria received widespread critical praise, and her new album VOYA will be released in November. This album recalls “voyage,” “voice,” and Oya, the Yoruba wind goddess, becoming a journey through wind, voice, and spirit, honored in her interpretation of Wayne Shorter’s composition “A Place Called Somewhere.”
