Susanne Alt performs with a top ensemble of jazz musicians in celebration of her seventh album Dark Horse. Recorded during the same inspired New York session that also produced Royalty For Real, Dark Horse stands on its own: a series of groove-oriented tracks captured in a single arc of energy and intent.

When Alt prepared to record in New York City, she found herself with more material than expected—an abundance of ideas and compositions waiting to be brought to life. It soon became clear that the scope of the project would exceed its original plan. While her 2024 release Royalty For Real marked a return to the acoustic jazz that first brought her acclaim and paid tribute to trumpet legend Roy Hargrove, Dark Horse turns toward discovery: it showcases music that emerged spontaneously as soon as the tape started rolling. The result is a cohesive, living snapshot of Susanne Alt’s artistry at full sail—melodic, groove-driven, and in constant dialogue with the city and the musicians who inspire it.

Susanne Alt is a saxophonist, composer, DJ and producer who lives in Amsterdam. After an education in classical and jazz, she was one of the first musicians to play live with DJs in nightlife settings. She is acclaimed for her soulful, deep and funky sound, and she collaborated with the likes of Fred Wesley, DJ Spinna and DJ Maestro. She also released “Live at Bimhuis” with her own quartet in 2011.

Susanne Alt saxophone, Matthijs Geerts keys, Ike van Bergen keys,  Thomas Pol double bass, Yoran Vroom drums, Helene Jank percussion
