    Django Amsterdam

The new edition of Django Amsterdam opens with a super quintet that combines classic jazz manouche with lurical harmonica playing. Stochelo Rosenberg on guitar and Jermaine Landsberger on piano have been performing together for many years and are both true masters of their instruments, possessing an exceptional ability to improvise. With their project Gypsy Today, they have created a highly energetic and swinging blend of Stochelo’s more traditional jazz with Jermaine’s modern influences.

Hermine Deurloo, known as the ‘queen of harmonica’, adds a nostalgic, emotionally rich dimension to the unrivalled guitar playing of Stochelo Rosenberg. The famous leader of the Rosenberg Trio delivers original compositions alongside standards and Django Reinhardt-classics. These come to life with stunning solos and swinging latin influences. The accompanying rhythm section features Matheus Nicolaiewsky on double bass and Sander Smeets on drums.

Django Amsterdam is dedicated to the birthday of guitar legend Django Reinhardt, the originator of gypsy jazz or swing manouche. This style of acoustic swing jazz became part of the Roma and Sinti culture thanks to Django, who’s generally considered one of the greatest guitar players of all time. For four days the concerts on our stage will be complemented with sessions and performances at the café. The house band is the trio of guitarist Tessa Spaaij, known for her melodic and expressive style. Each evening she will set the tone with an introductory performance and lead the session after the concert.

Hermine Deurloo harmonica, Stochelo Rosenberg guitar, Jermaine Landsberger piano, Matheus Nicolaiewsky bass, Sander Smeets drums
