Schntzl & De Beren Gieren

Schtnzl: Hendrik Lasure piano/electronics en Casper Van De Velde drums/electronics

De Beren Gieren: Fulco Ottervanger piano/synths/effects, Lieven Van Pée double bass/elektrische bas, Simon Segers drums, effects

The BIMHUIS and Flemish cultural center De Brakke Grond present rising jazz talents from Flanders in a series of two-part concerts. This edition opens with the duo SCHNTZL of Hendrik Lasure and Casper Van De Velde, who create something unique by combining piano and drums with electronics. ‘Music that brings together the intensity of ambient, the melodic sense of a melancholic pop song, and the spontaneity of a jazz record.’

With their new album Less is Endless, De Beren Gieren traverse unknown territories with rhythms and timbres that defy all genres and still sound familiar. Dutch pianist and composer Fulco Ottervanger formed De Beren Gieren with bassist Lieven Van Pée and drummer Simon Segers, who are both from Ghent, Belgium. The band has collaborated with renowned jazz dissidents such as Louis Sclavis, Ernst Reijseger and Marc Ribot.
