Samora Pinderhughes is a composer, pianist, vocalist, filmmaker, and multidisciplinary artist known for his striking intimacy and carefully crafted, radically honest lyrics alongside high-level musicianship. As a pianist he has a solid background in jazz and classical music. While his work also contains traces of soul, folk, hip-hop and electronics, he aims to move beyond any genre. He uses his musical projects to examine sociopolitical issues and fight for change, as an anti-capitalist and a prison and police abolitionist.
Samora Pinderhughes has previously collaborated with musical innovators such as Robert Glasper, Karriem Riggins en Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah. On his recent album Venus Smiles Not in the House of Tears he continues to work with his sister, well-known flautist Elena Pinderhughes. Samora increasingly develops himself as a singer who’s unafraid of revealing his vulnerable side, focusing on the emotions behind his lyrics. In his current band he shares vocal duties with guitarist Elliott Skinner, a like-minded artist whose music is released by the British label Ninja Tune.
