Saxophonist and composer Sam Newbould has won various awards with his Amsterdam-based quintet. His birthplace in the Northern English countryside still inspires his music, alongside contemporary classical music, Radiohead and Wayne Shorter, for example. He combines folk melodies, dark chords and heavy grooves on his recent album Bogus Notus.
