British trumpeter and vocalist Phil Minton, who first performed on our stage back in 1978 (!), opens the evening with his legendary Feral Choir. Since the 1980s he has led this project all over the world, bringing together both experienced and inexperienced voices, inviting them to explore the full range of their vocal possibilities. It is an invitation to rediscover the voice as a purely expressive instrument, as an ‘orchestra of improvised sounds’.
Minton then takes the stage with a brand-new quartet of kindred improvisers: vocal artist Audrey Chen, Norwegian trombonist Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø and bassist Luc Ex. Although this is their first performance in this line-up, the musicians draw on years of collaboration in duos and groups such as Roof, 4Walls and Beamsplitter. Improvisation at its finest, with music created entirely in the moment.
