The jazz department of Muziekschool Amsterdam produces a new generation of young talent every year. During the annual Jazz Marathon, more than 80 musicians of all ages give their best in a range of bands, ensembles and big bands.

The department was founded 38 years ago by Peter Guidi, ’the godfather of the Amsterdam jazz scene’ (de Volkskrant), and has since grown into four big bands, seven jazz combos and two adult workshops that rehearse weekly at Muziekschool Amsterdam. The result: a packed afternoon on which promising players of the new generation claim their place on the stage.
