The American trio New Jazz Underground pushes the boundaries of the jazz tradition and shifts them wherever possible. The band — consisting of Sebastian Rios, Abdias Armenteros and TJ Reddick — forged their sound during the pandemic by performing on the streets of New York and attracting millions of viewers with their viral living room sessions on YouTube. Praised by Christian McBride as one of the most urgent groups of the moment, the trio delivers a distinctive mix of hard bop, hip-hop and modern soul.
Each band member has already earned their stripes extensively: bassist-composer Sebastian Rios is a protégé of Ron Carter; saxophonist-vocalist Abdias Armenteros is the youngest member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and drummer TJ Reddick has already shared the stage with names like Chick Corea and Jon Batiste. Following their acclaimed ode to Kendrick Lamar (Dying of Thirst), their long-awaited debut album will be released on the Artwork Record Label in spring 2026.
