After the internationally acclaimed Hubert (2019) and You Know (2021), Antwerp-based jazz quartet N∆BOU returns with Indigo, an album that marks a new phase in the artistic development of trombonist and band leader Nabou Claerhout. With a refreshed line-up — Trui Amerlinck on double bass, Gijs Idema on electric guitar and Daniel Jonkers on drums — the quartet explores themes of change, renewal and human connection.
The sound of Indigo moves between dreamlike atmospheres and melancholic resonance, from lyrical, contemplative moments to playful, groove-driven energy. Claerhout’s trombone remains the quartet’s leading voice, supported by subtle effects and brief, near-ghostly solo passages that bring together vulnerability and strength. ‘Highly contemporary, quite inventive’, according to DownBeat.
