Alto saxophonist Mo van der Does has played with the Metropole Orkest, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, All Ellington and the Tijs Klaassen Quintet, among others, and has won awards including the Prinses Christina Concours and Keep an Eye: The Records. For his seven-piece Motet, he writes music with the power of a big band and the agility of a small ensemble, and the band explores composition, orchestration and improvisation, drawing inspiration from Charles Mingus and Maurice Ravel.
Following the acclaimed debut Motet (2022), the band recorded Live at Bimhuis with us in December 2024 for our REFLEX series, part of BIMHUIS Productions. The album is already out digitally; tonight Motet presents the vinyl edition. Lyrical melodies alternate with combative grooves, and intimate, melancholic passages with orchestral outbursts.
‘But best of all, the saxophonist and his six bandmates sound not only refined, but above all truly fiery.’ (Trouw)
