Goede Maten celebrates the birthdays and lasting legacy of Misha Mengelberg (5 June 1935 – 3 March 2017) and Louis Andriessen (6 June 1939 – 1 July 2021). Both close friends, composers and improvisers, they not only shook up Dutch music but left their mark across the world.

Tonight, Goede Maten shows that great artists do not only live on through their finished work: they remain forces that keep generating new encounters, through archival discoveries, musical friendships, rediscoveries and new generations of performers. A colourful gathering pays tribute to them, featuring the mighty ICP Orchestra, Cristina Zavalloni, Gerard Bouwhuis, Heleen Hulst and De Kickers, directed by Jan Maarten Koeman.

Beforehand, students of HKU Utrecht Conservatoire perform a preview of De Schat van Scharlaken Rackham, a piece Louis Andriessen wrote in 1970 for the Utrecht Music School. In the Atrium, starts at 19:45.

ICP Orchestra: Thomas Heberer trumpet, Joost Buis trombone, Ab Baars clarinet/tenor sax, Tobias Delius clarinet/tenor sax, Michael Moore clarinet/alto sax, Mary Oliver violin/viola, Harald Austbø cello, Guus Janssen piano, Ernst Glerum double bass, Han Bennink drums
