With his Universe Quartet, Michael Moore devotes himself to ‘Ballads & Dedications,’ two forms that offer musical freedom. With this quartet featuring Guillermo Celano on guitar, Omer Govreen on double bass and Onno Govaert on drums, Moore plays both new and earlier compositions, with influences jazz, Brazilian music and more. Expect subdued ballads, fiery outbursts and pure imagination.
Michael Moore combines the best of several worlds: the finesse of American jazz tradition, the anarchy of New Dutch Swing and the quirkiness of folk music from all over the world. The California-born reed player is active in the Amsterdam jazz scene as a composing member of ICP Orchestra, as leader of his own bands and as owner of the label Ramboy. He has collaborated with Lee Konitz, Dave Douglas, Kenny Wheeler and Mark Feldman, among others.
‘One of the finest jazz musicians working anywhere, either in the mainstream or the avant-garde’ (Chicago Reader).
