Maya Fridman & Chiara Trentin

Maya Fridman, Chiara Trentin cello

Four cellists, four nationalities, four individual quests.

With the prize money of the Anner Bijlsma Award, cello phenomenon Giovanni Sollima has set up a development path for four young international cellists who want more than just playing the well-established repertoire very well. During this concert Maya Fridman (Russia) and Chiara Trentin (Italy) are in the spotlights. Ayşe Deniz Birdal (Turkey) and Abel Selaocoe (South Africa) are participating in this concert.

The free improvisations for cello and voice of the Russian Maya Fridman often arise after seeing paintings or illustrations that affect her. Maya wrote her improvisations for the first time especially for this project
cello and tune in. Chiara Trentin (Italy) gets her inspiration from a completely different angle: dance and techno. You hardly hear the difference, but every sound in her tracks – even the smallest detail – is made by her cello and is the result of hours of experimentation.
