Saxophonist Maarten Hogenhuis is known for his versatility. He has collaborated with composer and vocalist Thomas Azier, where pop and free improvisation meet, and released two albums with guitarist Jesse van Ruller. Now, the saxophonist, also a member of BRUUT!, feels the urge to breathe new life into his trio.
For his latest album, Hogenhuis turned to the work of legendary composer Cole Porter. Together with bassist Phil Donkin and drummer Mark Schilders, he recorded a selection of standards, mostly in one take. The result shows how compositions written a century ago can still offer endless space for personal reinterpretation.
Maarten Hogenhuis saxofoon/effecten, Phil Donkin double bas, Mark Schilders drums
