One of the most distinctive voices in jazz and improvised music today, Laura Jurd’s unique approach to the trumpet reveals a love of folk traditions, alongside a background in classical composition. This fall will see the release of her new album Rites & Revelations, on which she is joined by Irish fiddle player Ultan O’Brien and British accordionist Martin Green, known as a member of  of folk trio Lau. Live they take the listener on a journey of ritual and catharsis, propelled by the dynamic rhythm section of Ruth Goller on bass and Corrie Dick on drums.

Composer-performer Laura Jurd’s distinct voice as an improvising trumpet player is at the heart of everything she does. As a band leader she has performed on our stage with her groups Dinosaur and The Big Friendly Band. Through her compositions she creates a melodic world full of compelling twists and turns, whilst retaining a grounded sense of familiarity. The Beatles and Stravinsky are two notable influences. She has written music for the London Sinfonietta, the Festival of New Trumpet Music, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the Ligeti Quartet to name a few.
