A style of piano playing that creates a narrative, a woody, song-centric bass sound and dancing drums: these American friends have everything you can expect from a jazz piano trio. Pianist Jon Cowherd wrote the compositions, but on stage he is equally as important as bassist Tony Scherr and drummer Brian Blade. Their roles are fluid: the bass often carries second melody, the drums orchestrate form, the piano frames space as much as it fills it. Through improvisation they create something unique every time they perform.

As a pianist and composer, Jon Cowherd strives for clarity, much like his mentor Ellis Marsalis. He has collaborated with Cassandra Wilson, Joni Mitchell, John Scofield and many others. He co-founded the Brian Blade Fellowship with star drummer Brian Blade, who accompanied famous players such as Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Joshua Redman. Bassist Tony Scherr previously performed on our stage with Joey Baron and Bill Frisell, and, recently, as part of a supergroup featuring Hermine Deurloo, Jon Cowherd and Steve Gadd.
