When it comes to jazz guitar, John Scofield is one of the all-time greats. In his current band Combo 73 he plays with pianist Gerald Clayton, the son of his good friend John Clayton, the famous bassist. As a duo, they also have a remarkable chemistry. ‘It’s always relaxed and intuitive when we make music together,’ says Scofield. The guitarist will pick a selection of compositions from his oeuvre, just as he did for Combo 73 and the earlier version of that band, Combo 66, which appeared on the eponymous album on Verve Records.

Since his breakthrough playing with Miles Davis, John Scofield has been praised for his melodic guitar playing, which can sound either virtuoso and flexible or angular and grainy. As a solo artist he has embraced many styles, from funk and fusion to country and rhythm and blues. Gerald Clayton is widely acclaimed as a pianist, composer and band leader—he has reached the number one position in the Downbeat Critics Polls several times. His recent album Ones & Twos is a playful tribute tribute to DJ culture in hip-hop. Previously he has collaborated with the likes of Roy Hargrove, Charles Lloyd and Ambrose Akinmusire.
