Stevie Wonder triggered a musical revolution in the 1970s: within a short span of time he released a series of legendary albums, and virtually all of those compositions grew into worldwide hits that have since become part of our collective memory. His irresistible mix of grooves, infectious melodies and subtle jazz influences also proves fertile ground for improvisation.

Fifty years after the release of Songs in the Key of Life, Jasper Blom, Sean Fasciani and Felix Schlarmann bring this repertoire back to life on their album WONDERYEARS, in the open trio setting of saxophone, double bass and drums. They use Wonder’s characteristic melodies and rich harmonies as a point of departure for their own contemporary arrangements: at times the original song comes through with full clarity, at other times the musicians venture into rhythmically and harmonically adventurous territory.
