Early Show: Greetje Bijma & Oceanic: Swallow a party
Greetje Bijma vocals, Oceanic electronics
Greetje Bijma can rightly be called a legend: in 1990 she was the first woman to win the Buma Boy Edgar Prize (the most important Dutch prize for jazz and improvised music) and she worked together with Jasper van ’t Hof, Willem Breuker and Louis Andriessen, among others. Since the 1980s, this free jazz singer has become an indispensable part of the Dutch jazz scene.
When Pieter Jansen of record label yeyeh bumped into Bijma, he was immediately starstruck. He asked her if she would be open to the idea of a collaboration with a young electronic music producer, and her answer was an immediate yes.
Enter Oceanic. This rising star in the Dutch electronic underground is known for his mechanical rhythms, minimalist melodies and vibrant electronics. Although the two stem from completely different generations, they immediately felt a musical click. After two extremely productive days, that click resulted in the first tracks of the album Swallow A Party. Expect mind-blowing vocals, danceable rhythms and breathtaking beats. Happy Holidays!
