This super duo exceeds all expectations. Their album Collab was nominated for a Grammy and a Latin Grammy and they were voted ‘Duo of the Year’ by the Jazz Journalists Association. Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Hamilton de Holanda are not only known for their virtuosity, but also for their deeply passionate melodic playing. On Collab they perform songs by Stevie Wonder and Eurovision favourite Maro, but their original compositions set the tone and serve as springboards for brilliant improvisations.
Gonzalo Rubalcaba, who descends from a lineage of Cuban virtuosos, was discovered at a young age by Dizzy Gillespie. Piano & Keyboard Magazine selected him as one of the great pianists of the twentieth century, alongside figures such as Glenn Gould, Martha Argerich and Bill Evans. He won three Grammys and three Latin Grammys. Hamilton de Holanda is one of the most influential players of the bandolim, the mandolin that gives Brazilian music its distinct character. He has earned praise from major Brazilian stars and he has worked with international stars such as Wynton Marsalis and Béla Fleck.
