GEORGE, led by drummer/composer John Hollenbeck, presents music that sits somewhere between vintage funk, electro-acoustic jazz and art-pop. The quartet features Anna Webber on tenor saxophone and flute, Sarah Rossy on voice and synthesizer, Chiquita Magic on synthesizers and voice, and Hollenbeck on drums. Pitchfork described their energy as “as infectious as a perfect pop tune”. The band’s name is both a tribute to George Floyd, in remembrance of his life and the violent death he suffered, and an echo of a wide constellation of Georges: from the Greek georgos (“earthworker”) and George Washington Carver to George Orwell, Georgia O’Keeffe and George Lewis.

Letters to George (Out Of Your Head Records, 2023) was praised by AllMusic as a remarkable debut of captivating, provocative compositions. In 2026 the band releases Looking for Consonance, recorded at Hansa Studios in Berlin.
