Top players from the international gypsy jazz world will unite for the ninth edition of Django Amsterdam. Every year the festival is dedicated to the birthday of guitar icon Django Reinhardt, originator of gypsy jazz, or swing manouche. Performing on Friday evening is the world famous guitarist Jimmy Rosenberg, with support act Eva Sur Seine.
Singer Eva Scholten is a great promise in jazz, in the Netherlands as well as abroad. Eva Sur Seine is her collaboration with the trio of gypsy jazz guitarist Thomas Baggerman. The combination of sophisticated vocals and virtuoso guitar playing can best be described as Ella Fitzgerald meets Django Reinhardt.
Jimmy Rosenberg is a phenomenon among guitar players and a master of gypsy jazz. At a very young age he had already achieved global fame. He played at the Concertgebouw with violin player and gypsy jazz-pioneer Stéphane Grappelli, and at Carnegie Hall with Les Paul and George Benson. Jimmy is a cousin of the members of the Rosenberg Trio.
