Enemy is about intensity and complexity – tense negotiations involving cryptic rhythms and wonky beats with light speed reactions and high focus. The three members are based in Berlin and London and have been working for ten years in this line-up. Described as ‘fiercely intense’ and ‘beautifully intricate’ by The Guardian, Enemy’s live performance pushes their collective improvisation to new heights.

The members of Enemy are simultaneously active in many other contexts. For example, pianist Kit Downes has won important awards as a solo pianist and organist, while he has also worked with the likes of Mica Levi, Squarepusheren Bill Frisell. Bassist Petter Eldh has performed on our stage in maverick bands such as Koma Saxo en Økse. And drummer James Maddren has played with, among others, Marc Copland, Gwilym Simcock en Jacob Collier. Fiend, Enemy’s most recent album, was released on Edition Records, like their first eponymous debut from 2018. Meanwhile the trio has released albums on ECM Records and We Jazz.
