Motet is the seven-piece formation of alto saxophonist Mo van der Does, in which he unites major jazz talents. For this group, which can be as flexible as a small ensemble and as powerful as a big band, he wrote new music commissioned by the BIMHUIS. Narrative compositions, with room for orchestral parts as well as improvisations. The Motet is developing a new album made possible by winning the competition Keep an Eye: The Records.
Alto saxophonist Mo van der Does has earned acclaim for his tone, his lyricism and his improvisational skills, by the press as well as by colleagues such as Benjamin Herman. He played with, among others, Peter Beets & Henk Meutgeert New Jazz Orchestra, Metropole Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and All Ellington. 2019 saw the release of his debut album, which was celebrated with a concert at the BIMHUIS.
‘Alto saxophonist Mo van der Does stands out for his beautiful, warm sound and his surprising, imaginative playing. On top of that, he writes wonderful pieces’ (Jazzism).
