Defunkt emerged in 1978 in New York as a crossover between punk, funk and jazz, founded by trombonist and vocalist Joseph Bowie. The band pioneered the fusion of mainstream music with bold, experimental styles. Now 47 years strong, Defunkt has seen various line-ups and periods of silence, but always with ‘Mr. Defunkt’ Joe Bowie as its driving force.

After a five-year absence, the energetic trombonist, vocalist, percussionist and bandleader returns with an entirely Dutch incarnation of Defunkt. With a new line-up featuring Kypski (C-mon & Kypski), guitarist Twan van Gerven (Beef!), bassist Wladimir Geels (Rowwen Hèze) and drummer Greg Smith (Mendoza Dance Party, Michelle David), Defunkt NL is reloaded, resurrected and ready to funk.
