For more than ten years, Spanish-Dutch saxophonist Bernard van Rossum has led his BvR Flamenco Bigband: an extra-large big band that redefines the boundaries of flamenco and jazz. In his compositions, Van Rossum sheds new light on flamenco rhythms and harmonies through colourful orchestrations and the big band’s wide dynamic range. This earned him, amongst others, the prestigious Rogier van Otterloo Award.

The ensemble has previously shared the stage with flamenco greats such as Antonio Serrano, Carles Benavent and Rafael de Utrera. Tonight the big band will be joined by vocalist Erminia Fernández Córdoba, flamenco guitarist Arturo Ramón and percussionist Claudio Spieler.

‘I heard some new territory that night. Modern, innovative, and highly skillful compositions that did not diminish in any way the soul of Flamenco’ (Kenny Werner)
