Every rock band should be as explosive as Bushman’s Revenge, critics have noticed. The Norwegian trio sounds different than you would expect from experienced jazz musicians. On the one hand there’s the energy of Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath, and on the other the freedom of Alice Coltrane and Albert Ayler. Even composers like Ennio Morricone and Erik Satie have left traces. For example, the surprisingly accessible new album Ah, Les Vaches! was named after Satie’s last words. But the end is not in sight for Bushman’s Revenge; they recently welcomed their newest member Egil Kreken, who’s also the bass guitarist for blackjazz formation Shining.

Most of the songs on the new album were written by guitarist Even Helte Hermansen. He co-founded the band together with drummer Gard Nilssen, renowned band leader in Scandinavian jazz who has performed on our stage with the likes of Acoustic Unity and Mathias Eick. Since its foundation at the start of the millennium, Bushman’s Revenge has released twelve albums with original compositions alongside tracks by, among others, Prince, Sonny Sharrock and Sun Ra.
