The Bill Stewart Trio ranks among the absolute top of contemporary jazz. Drummer Bill Stewart has been one of the most sought-after musicians in international jazz for decades and shares a long collaborative history with bassist Larry Grenadier in the bands of Pat Metheny and John Scofield, among others.
Stewart first played with tenor saxophonist Walter Smith III on a recording for pianist Danny Grissett. Smith’s clear sound and distinctive approach proved to be the perfect addition to this piano-less trio. The trio has performed multiple residencies at New York’s Village Vanguard in recent years and previously released the album Band Menu. They recently released the album Live at the Village Vanguard, highly recommended.
“If you’re a fan of straight-ahead, post-bop, contemporary jazz, with great tunes and fabulous musicianship, without unnecessary frills and spills, then this one’s for you” — UKVibe
