For 30 years he has been one of the key figures of the improvisation scene: blazer Ab Baars. On this special afternoon (early show at 15:00, late show at 17:00), he will be in the spotlight, presenting no less than two new projects, in which he works with wellknown like-minded musicians as well as with “the new kids on the block”.
Baars Dumitriu Henneman Sola
The Romanian violinist George Dumitriu wanted to know more about the viola and thus became Ig Henneman’s viola friend. Not long after, cellist Pau Sola joined them. To increase the absolute pleasure of improvising on wooden instruments even more, they asked Ab Baars to join with his shakuhachi. So it happened and a quartet was born. Now they present their new album aforismen aforisme aforismes. All songs are named after the different soil types from the homecountries of the musicians: the Netherlands, Romania and Spain.
Baars’ Crooners
As is quite common in the impro scene, this quintet was spontaneously put together for an evening in Zaal 100. That concert turned out to be so inspiring that Baars wanted to continue with these musicians. He wrote new music for this special band, with his old friend Joost Buis on trombone and young musicians Sun-Mi Hong, Alistair Payne and Triston Renfrow.
