Ashley Henry Trio + Support by Brintex Collective

Piano talent from London blurs the boundaries between jazz, grime and hip-hop.

In our new series DATSKAT we mix jazz with hip-hop and (neo)soul. Our stage is given to the established and new generation of artists who represent this sound. Friday is the kick-off with MAGRO and Glimlip X Yasper. Saturday the festival continues with the Ashey Henry Trio and Brintex Collective.

Ashley Henry’s music reflects where he’s from: London in all its diversity, where jazz is open to influences from various cultures and generations. The 28-year-old pianist is preparing a follow-up to his debut album Beautiful Vinyl Hunter, on which he collaborated with frontrunners of the new jazz generation such as Theo Croker, Keyon Herrold, Makaya McCraven, and Binker & Moses.
Henry grew up around a great variety of art and music which still influences him, from painters to ballet dancers, from Freddie Mercury to Abdullah Ibrahim, and from British rappers from the grime scene to American hip-hop. With his piano trio he celebrated success at Super-Sonic Jazz, the festival that took place this fall at Paradiso, Amsterdam.

The support act is Brintex Collective. This young Rotterdam band is inspired by the UK jazz scene Ashley Henry represents and produces a fresh mix of hiphop, electronic music and jazz. In the spring of 2023 they will release their first EP.
