Angelo Debarre Trio | Paulus Schäfer & Dominique Paats
Saturday20 January 2024

Inspired by the Parisian starry sky and featuring a French maestro, the Saturday concert of Django Amsterdam is bound to be spectacular. Top players from the international gypsy jazz world will unite for this tenth edition of Django Amsterdam. Every year the weekend-long festival is dedicated to guitar icon Django Reinhardt (1910-1953), originator of gypsy jazz, jazz manouche or swing manouche.

Paris, the city of the great chansonniers such as Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, and George Brassens, as well as Django Reinhardt and accordion player Marcel Azzola. Paulus Schäfer, one of the most talented jazz manouche guitarists in The Netherlands, and accordionist Dominique Paats will take you on a musical city trip through Paris. With lovely chansons, true musettes and exuberant Hotclub de France, performed with unparalleled class: ‘Sous le ciel de Paris’.

French master guitarist Angelo Debarre started playing guitar at the age of eight and formed his first jazz manouche group nearly forty years ago. He played at the Parisian bar La Roue Fleurie, where he was discovered by producer and guitarist Jon Larsen. Since then, no gypsy guitarist can ignore Debarre. He is one of the forefathers of the jazz manouche renaissance and influenced a whole generation of players all around the world.

As a pre-show, Adrian Holovaty will perform a melodic set at our restaurant with his trio. The guitarist from Chicago takes inspiration from Chet Atkins, The Beatles and, of course, Django Reinhardt, among many others.
