Trumpeter and composer Adam O’Farrill presents his new album Elephant. O’Farrill, grandson of the legendary Chico O’Farrill (founder of the Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra), seeks connections between tradition and contemporary music, between the melodic and rhythmic richness of his Cuban roots and the many-coloured influences of the New York jazz scene.
Influences from minimalism, twentieth-century classical music and the aesthetics of the drum machine go hand in hand with open improvisation. O’Farrill is joined by Yvonne Rogers on piano, prepared piano and synthesizer, Walter Stinson on double bass, and Russell Holzman on drums.
