NEWTHING is our giving circle for those who want to make room for innovation. With a gift of €2,500 a year, for at least five years, you make new projects by young professional musicians possible.
A giving circle for innovation
NEWTHING is an exclusive giving circle of committed members, centred on making room for innovation. The name refers to the music that sparked the fiercest arguments of the 1950s and 1960s: the free jazz of Ornette Coleman, known at the time as the ‘New Thing’. For many listeners this music was hard to take in, and even among enthusiasts people firmly took sides. Anyone who backed the new generation back then was going against the tide.

That is exactly what NEWTHING does today: choosing music that has yet to prove itself. For young professional musicians developing their own signature, and for projects that cannot be funded from our regular budget. These projects are the heart of BIMHUIS Productions, our own production house. There, we give musicians the space to create new work and build an audience.
NEWTHING supports BIMHUIS, but does not belong to BIMHUIS. Members largely decide for themselves where their money goes.

How to join
You join NEWTHING with a gift of €2,500 a year, for a period of at least five years. We put the agreement in writing.
Because your gift is committed for five years, there is no threshold for the deduction: you can deduct the full amount. In addition, BIMHUIS is a cultural ANBI, which means you may increase the gift by 25% in your tax return. How much tax benefit this brings depends on your personal situation. Please discuss this with your tax adviser.
A few times a year we organise a members’ gathering, where we attend a soundcheck together, meet musicians and learn more about the music.
