Singer Zara McFarlane is one of London’s major jazz talents. ‘McFarlane has a pop sensibility and her songs are based around strong melodies’ (Uncut).

Zara McFarlane is one of the most remarkable rising stars in British soul jazz. The singer from London, who was raised in a Jamaican family, has been compared to Erykah Badu en Cassandra Wilson. She has a pure voice and a unique, contemporary style combining soul, jazz, dub and afro funk. The intimate vocals of Nina Simone and the enchanting seventies-jazz of Pharoah Sanders are important influences on Zara’s songs.

On her most recent album Arise, Zara McFarlane collaborates with rising stars of UK jazz including drummer/producer Moses Boyd and saxophonists Binker Golding and Shabaka Hutchings (who’s known from Heliocentrics). Arise was released on Brownswood Recordings, the label of DJ Gilles Peterson.

‘A singer who possesses a pure tone and who has a real feel for jazz melody and rhythm. Her original songs are sharply observed. McFarlane is a convincing storyteller’ (The Jazz Mann).

Zara McFarlane vocals, Peter Edwards piano/keys, Max Luthert bass, Binker Golding tenor saxophone, Sam Jones drums & pads
