Sons Of Kemet

Thu 19 January 2017

Irresistible, danceable music by the frontrunners of new British jazz, the four-piece formation Sons of Kemet. ‘A wall of head-spinning sounds’ (JazzWise).

Everything that makes contemporary UK jazz so exciting is summed up in the irresistible, danceable music of Sons Of Kemet. Band leader, saxophonist and clarinet player Shabaka Hutchings, known as a member of The Heliocentrics, employs a wealth of styles for his colorful compositions. Aside from tuba player Theon Cross the group contains no less than two drummers.

This band has a unique line-up, as well as a unique style based on three important fundaments: jazz, parade music from New Orleans, Arabian scales and Albert Ayler-like passionate solos, brought together in one overwhelming, danceable mix. Sons of Kemet has previously received a MOBO Award for Best Jazz Act.
