Picatrix
A singer, violinist and pianist like you’ve never heard before.
This show is streamed live on BIMHUIS TV and can be followed on YouTube and Facebook.
Greetje Bijma, Mary Oliver en Nora Mulder form a wondrous ensemble, whose concerts are true adventures. Clean classical sounds from the grand piano, sharp eruptions from the viola and dark throat singing can easily come out of a wonderful jazz ballad. Piano strings growl, the viola snarls, vocals vibrate in the highest or the lowest register, and all of this with a keen sense of drama.
This highly original trio made its debut at the groundbreaking festival Le Guess Who? Greetje Bijma is one of the best-known female vocalists in The Netherlands, and was the first woman to be awarded the major Dutch jazz award, the Boy Edgar Prize. Mary Oliver (violin, viola, hardanger fiddle) can boast of a large oeuvre in both composed and improvised music, and is a member of the Instant Composer Pool Orchestra. Nora Mulder (piano) is a renowned performer of contemporary classical and improvised music, and a creator of absurdist sound installations. She was awarded the Willem Breuker Prize in 2019.
