Ella Zirina

Jazz guitarist and composer with impressionistic playing style.

About Ella Zirina

Ella Zirina (Latvia, 1997) graduated cum laude from the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2021. Since then she has shared the stage with Ben van Gelder, Jesse van Ruller and Sun-Mi Hong, among others. She played in Jong Metropole and NJJO.

In BIMHUIS Productions

Zirina wrote her debut album Intertwined in BIMHUIS Productions. Guitar improvisations were the starting point of the writing process, which she then developed for her trio. During her Startende Makers trajectory, Zirina took master classes in string quartet composition and added strings to her music. The snare around the project is the interaction with her mentor and role model Tineke Postma. Her feelings about the male-dominated jazz scene, moments of hopelessness and finding peace at the sunsets in her home country of Latvia have been given their own place on the record. The album has been released on CD and streaming.

The Startende Makers trajectory is supported by Fonds Podiumkunsten.
