The second night of TryTone’s anniversary opens with the Zapp String Quartet. This quartet is known as the hardest grooving string quartet in The Netherlands. Zapp makes its own music out of improv, jazz, rock and non-Western elements. Jorrit Dijkstra and John Hollenbeck have been active as a duo for 10 years. The saxophone player and the drummer have a way of improvising that’s similar to Steve Lacy and Ornette Coleman. They provide melody and groove while making space for experimentation. Two bands will go head to head in tonight’s final performance: Man Bites Dog and Ninsk. The line-up offers plenty of challenges with two guitarists, two sax players and two drummers. Jazz with the direct and unforced approach of punk and rock. Tonight the Bimhuis cafe-restaurant will be serving a buffet menu instead of its usual a-la-carte menu (€ 15, from 18.30). Reservations recommended: 020-7882158.
