Although she is born and raised in the illustrious Buena Vista-barrio of Havana, Yusimil Lopez Bridon, better known as Yusa, has no relationship with the famous Social Club. Her subtle and eclectic music is inspired by Cuban styles like nueva cancion, bolero and fillin, as well as by Carlinhos Brown, Lenine and Chico Science. Vanaf de oprichting van het ensemble in 1962 zijn zij ware ambassadeurs voor de pure Afro-Cubaanse muziek. Zij herleiden de muziek tot haar essentie: melodieuze zanglijnen boven opzwepende ritmes. In 2001 wonnen ze de Grammy Latino met de cd ‘La Rumba Soy Yo’.
