YURI HONING TRIO
Yuri Honing-tenor saxophone, Tony Overwater-double bass, Joost Lijbaart-drums
The Yuri Honing Trio was founded fifteen years ago but still is too progressive to celebrate its anniversary. The group is constantly nourished with new impulses from the members’ sidelines: Honing’s generous, spacious sound and talent for ‘instant composing’ led to an Edison Award in 2002 for the highly successful meeting with the Paul Bley Trio. Overwater’s tribute to the classic jazz of Oscar Pettiford and also his collaboration with Anouk and Ilse de Lange, unites mastership with courage and Lijbaart’s drumming, drenched with exotic rhythms, shines in his Group of Friends, inspired by the Blue Note 60’s.
