The tenth edition of the Young VIPs Tour will be held from 14 March until 13 April 2008. The music programmers from the Dutch Vereniging van Jazz en Improvisatiemuziek Podia (VIP) (Union of Jazz and Improvised Music Venues) have chosen pianist Soo Cho and guitarist Bram Stadhouders to take part on this year’s tour with their own formations. Following her studies of classical piano and flute at the Sung-sin University in Seoul, Korean Soo Cho came to the Netherlands in 2001 to concentrate on jazz. A few years ago she set up her own trio with double bassist Daniel Lottersberger and drummer Sotiris Ntouvas. Angelo Verploegen is also well known as the Houdini’s trumpet player who this year are celebrating their twentieth anniversary. Since 2007 he has also been the artistic director of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. His collaboration with Cho resulted in the CD entitled, Prayer, will be launched tonight. Bram Stadhouders already started winning classical guitar competitions aged eight and nine. He got his first electric guitar at age eleven and when as a twelve year he first heard Pat Metheny he plunged into jazz. Together with the band Solar he won the 2002 Princess Christina Jazz Concours and played at North Sea Jazz. The duo Stadhouders/Govaert stands for wild, gentle, heartbreaking, melodic and spacey soundscapes, with a unique combination of guitar with guitar synthesizer and laptop, drums and percussion.
